Greve in Chianti Tuscany is one of the most sustainable rural municipalities in Italy. The municipal administration has won the green “Spighe Verdi” award for the central role assigned to the rural management of the territory, the conservation and protection of nature and the landscape. The virtuous relationship between the municipality, farmers and the community, the adoption of good environmental practices, the crucial function assigned to agriculture in the defense of the landscape, the protection of biodiversity and the production of quality food. These are some of the most relevant aspects that have allowed the Greve administration to be recognized at a national level by the Fee organization (Foundation for Environmental Education Italy) for the model and shared strategic actions oriented towards sustainable development, rural heritage and improvement quality of life and the environment. To obtain the certification and the Spiga Verde brand, the Municipality has followed a specific protocol. The candidacy required the completion of a questionnaire and compliance with certain requirements, deemed suitable by a special commission after careful evaluation, in relation to the various thematic areas indicated including agriculture, urban planning, landscape protection, water, energy, waste.
